To get the best travel deals, you have to know when to look.

A lot of people think that travel is just expensive, but there are always great deals to be found. Most of the time, they don’t last long, so you have to act fast. That can be a problem when a deal requires you to hop on a plane tomorrow (how many people can do that? ), but most deals are months away, so you have plenty of time to plan.

Today, I’ll tell you where I go to find deals, tips, and advice from experts when I travel. After all, these travel resources are all about this one thing, so why not use them? Since I can’t know everything, I depend on experts. If traveling were a hospital, I’d be your primary care doctor.

Expedia’s website and mobile app let customers book almost anything, like vacation packages, flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, and tours.

Sign up for the Expedia Rewards Program and you’ll get 1 point for every dollar you spend on everything except flights, where you’ll get 1 point for every $5 you spend if you’re a Silver or Gold member. Customers who book often or spend a lot can move up to Silver or Gold status and earn double or triple the points every time they book. These points can be used to pay for free travel.

Find your vacation package by telling the site where you want to go, where you want to leave from, and how long the trip will be. You can sort the results by a number of things, such as the rating from guests, the amenities at the hotel, and the distance from downtown. In the search results, Expedia shows “Unreal Deals,” which are packages with savings that add up to a free night’s stay.

When booking a vacation, the location of the hotel is often one of the most important things. Priceline has a great map so you can see where the hotel is and a pop-up that tells you the hotel’s star rating, price, and customer rating so you can quickly browse.

Priceline will tell you when there is only one room left at a hotel if there aren’t many left. This way, you won’t miss out on a great deal. You can keep the lead-in package price if you like the room type and flight times, or you can change or add to your package (usually at a cost).

Priceline has Express Deals on hotels with discounts of up to 60% for people who can change their plans. The hotel brand isn’t shown until after you book, but you’ll know the hotel’s star rating, guest rating, and general location.

Orbitz lets you search for vacation packages that include flights, hotels, and car rentals in different ways. You can tell the main search box if you want direct flights or if you need a place to stay for part of your trip.

You can sort the hotels that come up in your search results by whether they let you cancel for free or by whether they have a swimming pool or an all-inclusive board. If you sign up for Orbitz Rewards, you can earn Orbucks that you can use to pay for hotel stays. 1 Orbuck is worth $1, and you can get them when you buy the following things:

Kayak is a metasearch engine that finds flights that match your search criteria and sends them back to you, but you don’t have to book them through Kayak. Kayak’s finest feature is the variety of filters available to reduce your search and eliminate the need to sift through unhelpful results. You can filter by direct flights only, carry-on or checked luggage, takeoff or landing times, airline alliances, and much more.

Sign up for Kayak Price Alerts to be notified by email when prices change based on the search criteria you’ve given.

CheapOair is an online travel agency that lets you make reservations directly with them. When you search for a flight, the results page will tell you if a price is only good for a certain number of tickets, so you don’t miss out on a good deal.

Members of CheapOair’s rewards program can get discounts of up to 20% on flights and up to 55% on hotels. Members get 500 points just for signing up, and another 500 points for their first booking. After you’ve booked once or spent $1,000, you’ll move to the Silver tier, where members earn 1 point for every $1 spent. Gold and Platinum levels give out more points. 1 point is worth 0.5 cents, so you would need 200 points to get $1 in travel credit.

Secret Flying is always looking for pricing mistakes and super cheap flash sales, which, according to the company, saves its customers an average of 90% on flights. If you’re flexible about dates and places, you’re in for a treat, but you can also get a good deal on a place you already want to go. If you get the Secret Flying app, you can get alerts when there are good deals on flights to the city, country, or region of your choice.

Booking.com is the go-to site for booking accommodations for millions of travelers because it makes it easy to search and book. Travelers can look at hotels, apartments, and other unique places to stay all over the world. Many of these places let you cancel for free.

When you stay twice in two years, you’ll get Genius level 1 status and be able to get 10% off certain properties. When a member stays 5 times in 2 years, they reach level 2, which gives them discounts of up to 15%, free breakfast, and free room upgrades at some properties.

Last Minute Travel lives up to its name by offering great deals on hotels, flights, car rentals, cruises, and more that are booked at the last minute. Travelers who are open to change will love the Undercover Hotels feature, which hides the name of the hotel until the booking is made. You’ll know where the hotel is in general, how many stars it has, how good the reviews are, and what kind of food it serves.

Join the Last Minute Travel Club to get special deals that are only available to members and earn points toward free travel. Membership costs $50 per year, and if you don’t save enough through your exclusive deals to pay for your membership, you’ll get a voucher to cover the difference.

Hopper is a smart little app that can predict hotel and flight prices with 95% accuracy up to a year in advance. If you book your hotel through the app, you could save up to 40%. Hopper will send you push notifications about your recent searches and let you know when the price of a property goes up or goes down.

The color-coded calendar shows which dates have the lowest prices by highlighting them in green, yellow, and red. Once you’ve searched for a destination, you can choose to “watch” certain hotels to get push notifications about deals you can’t find anywhere else online.
